Can a herniated disc heal without surgery?

Short answer: in many cases, yes. Discs have a limited blood supply, which makes them slow healers — but slow is not the same as never. When pressure on the disc is reduced, the body can do what it's built to do.
Why pressure is the problem
A bulging disc presses on nearby nerves — that's the shooting leg pain, the numb fingers, the morning stiffness. Pills mute the signal. Surgery removes tissue. Decompression takes a different path: gently reduce the pressure and give the disc room to retract and rehydrate.
Who's a candidate?
Generally: a diagnosed bulging or herniated disc, sciatica or radiating pain, no prior spinal fusion at the affected level, and a desire to avoid surgery and long-term medication. The honest answer comes from an exam — and if decompression isn't right for you, we'll say so.
